At Serene Haven, celebrating our residents’ life stories is central to who we are. Our Life Story Boards — personalised display cases in each resident’s room — are filled with photographs, cherished mementos, and handwritten notes that help staff truly know the person they are caring for.
“When a new care assistant sits with Margaret and sees her photographs from her days as a ballet dancer,” says Head of Care James Patterson, “the conversation changes immediately. It becomes about her, not just her care needs.”
The initiative has been adopted across all units and has received national recognition in the Person-Centred Care awards. Families are invited to contribute new items at any time, and the boards evolve as new chapters are added to each resident’s ongoing story.
